MARIA IRENE BARRIENTOS DE HERNANDEZ

HIDALGO - Ma. I. Barrientos De Hernandez, 54, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in Houston, Texas surrounded by her family. Born in Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico she had lived in Hidalgo for the past 14 years. Mrs. Hernandez is preceded in death by her husband, Rogelio Ignacio Hernandez.

Mrs. Hernandez is survived by eight children, Elizabeth (Filiberto) Delgadillo, Gerardo (Selene) Hernandez, Sergio Hernandez, Brenda (Mike) Taylor, Yasmin Hernandez (Armando Mariscal), Edgar (Samantha) Hernandez, Iris (Omar) Martinez and Christopher Hernandez; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Jose Luis and Jesus Barrientos; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Queen of nine, culinary expert and a true warrior are all synonymous of Maria Irene Barrientos de Hernandez. A true hardworking woman with a giving heart to all.  In her hand she had grace and her foods were a true example. She fed, clothed, and inspired her family.  She didn’t just feed her family with daily bread, but also with a great desire of perseverance. She didn’t just take her jacket off for her children, she clothed them in love and warmth.  Her inspiration was not just of words; her inspiration came from action. She had piercing words that spoke to the soul.

Aside from being a great cook, she enjoyed supporting her kids in all their endeavors. This included soccer, school, and life. She loved spending quality time with her family. playing board games. Her all-time favorite was parcheesi. Conquian was one of her strong suits. Her competitive nature reflected in these games as much as they did in life. She was a winner, or a learner.

Whatever may be your memory of her, understand that in everything she did, she loved.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Legacy Chapels. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
