McAllen- Donald "Don" R. Reed went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, in Edinburg surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 11, 1937, to Luther Coy Reed and Sally Trout Reed in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Mr. Reed is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Quint D. Reed; father in law, Victorino A. Ramos.
Don received his degree in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and Masters Degree in Business Management from the University of Houston. He moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1980 where he served as CEO of Edinburg Hospital from 1980-1987 and over the next 30 years he held the role of Medical Administrator for various specialties across Family Practice, ENT and General Surgery. Throughout his professional career he was so well respected within the medical community.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Rosie Ramos Reed; a daughter, Jennifer (Adrian) Arredondo; a son, Troy W. Reed; a granddaughter, Ava Rose Arredondo; two brothers, Malcolm Reed and Wayne (Edna) Reed; a sister Faye Spencer; mother in law, Elena D. Ramos; a brother in law, Victor (Alma) Ramos; a niece Kelly (Hector) Chapa and numerous nieces and nephews; and his super boy Oreo.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackosn Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebated at 10 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Prepetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Having the honor to serve as pallbearers are Adrian Arredondo, Troy W. Reed, Victor A. Ramos, Hector Chapa, Dr. Americo Baca and Dr. Prakash Palimar.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Amara Hospice who cared for Don so compassionately and an extra-special acknowledgement to Dr. Eugenio Galindo, Dr. Henry Ruiz, Dr. Prakash Palimar, Dr. Manuel Sanchez and Dr. Americo Baca. May God continue to bless you.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
