Aurora Julia Garza passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late Lt. Leoncio J. and Ramona F. Tagle and sister to Nellie Cavazos and the late Minnie Moeck and Amadeo Tagle. Aurora was born in the area known as La Hielera in Edinburg, TX. At age 18 she met her husband to be, the late Cecilio C. Garza at a WWII veterans dance where they fell in love. A short courtship and marriage followed that endured for 54 years.
Aurora and Cecilio were blessed to have seven children: Victor Garza (Jeannie), Brenda Garcia (Tino), Eloy Garza (Lucille), Rene Garza, David Garza, Julie Casarez (Michael) and Lucas Garza. She was a beloved Grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and admired by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Our mother was a woman of grace and beauty. She loved to visit family and spent her holidays in San Antonio and Austin each year. For us, she imparted a consistent message of respect, tolerance and compassion for others. Mom believed in giving back; whether leading an aerobics class at the local library, volunteering at the hospital or devoting time to her church she found a way to contribute to her community and touched many lives along the way. Her elegance and infectious smile will be greatly missed by all. We would like to express sincere gratitude to Maricela Careaga and Mercy Flores for their caring friendship to our mother.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd. in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 114 W. Fay, in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 1701 E. Richardson Rd. in Edinburg.
