Delia G. Mandes
McAllen - Delia G. Mandes, 81, went to be with our Lord, Saturday December 31, 2016, in Mission surrounded by her family. Delia Mandes was born in Karnes City, Texas and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was there she met a boy who moved to her neighborhood from Puerto Rico who would become her husband, Ray Mandes. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charlie Mandes; her parents, Juan T. and Carmen Garza.
Delia studied cosmetology and took business courses which she put to good use in establishing Ray Mandes Beauty Supply along with her husband in 1960. Delia and Ray along with their sons and daughter served the hairdressers and barbers in the Valley for 40 years.
Delia was a tenacious businesswoman, a loyal wife and a fiercely protective mother. She taught her children to work hard, save for the future and to protect what you've earned.
She enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was witty, generous and always had a kind word to share.
