SEVERO LOPEZ EDINBURG - Severo Lopez, 89, went to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 16, 2022, in McAllen surrounded by his family. Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his parents, Viviano and Cleofas Lopez; three siblings, Jesus Lopez, Bibiano Lopez, and Elia Ozuna. Severo was born in La Reforma, Texas and raised in San Isidro. He valued hard work and worked for the Guerra Brother’s La Reforma Cotton Gin at an early age. He knew at a young age that education was the key to the life he dreamed of having. After finishing his orders with the US Army, Severo was the first in his family to graduate from college. Years later after he had already started a family he continued his education and acquired his Master’s Degree in Education from Texas A&M University. He had a long successful career as an educator with several Valley school districts mostly with Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District as the vocational supervisor. Severo loved history and telling stories. He never passed up the opportunity give a quick history lesson or talk about life in San Isidro. He was very proud of all his children and made sure he provided what they needed for success. Severo had a strong faith. He prayed constantly and was always eager to share the word of God with his family. He trusted God with all his heart. He loved God and family above all. He was a provider, a protector, a friend, an uncle, a grandfather, and a father. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Marta Lopez; five children, Erika (Ruben Villarreal) Lopez Playle, Severo (Aida) Lopez Jr., Sonya L. (Philip) Johnson, Eduardo (Maricela) Lopez, and Leonel (Ludivina) Lopez; 13 grandchildren; his sister, Noemi Perez; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2022, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be: Michael Lopez, John Lopez, Matt Lopez, Cameron Playle, Doug Heiser, James Goode and the honorary pallbearer will be Brendan Lopez.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
