Maria De Jesus Villescas

January 1, 1927 — January 28, 2022

MARIA DE JESUS VILLESCAS SAN JUAN- Maria de Jesus Villescas, 94, went to join Our Lord on Friday, January 28, 2022 surrounded by family. She was a woman of faith who taught us that everything we did in life was for our Lord and because of our Lord. Maria was born in San Juan, Texas on November 18, 1927. She was the eldest of three children. Raised by her single mom, Rosario Rosas, she learned how to work and contribute to her family at a very young age. She did not have the opportunity for a formal education, but she made sure all her children had the opportunity. She came from humble beginnings that were rooted in faith. On April 29, 1950, she married Pedro Villescas with whom she shared 69½ years of marriage. As a wife and mother, she dedicated herself to being there for her husband and her seven children. She along with Dad, took pride in providing us with a Catholic school education, a tradition that continued with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She taught us to pray to our Lord, but also to always give Him thanks. Her seven children knew her as a teacher of life. She was our first teacher in learning how to pray, how to treat others, how to help those in need, how to do community service, and as she would say, “Don’t wait to be asked for help, you need to step up and offer the help first.” Mom served as a refuge to many members of the family who called on her. She was good at listening and of course offering her advice. Family and friends knew that a visit to our house meant a meal and pan dulce with coffee or chocolate, if the weather was cold. Her children grew up waking up to their breakfast of choice, because to her one should eat what they like, especially in their first meal before heading out to school. So that meant that on any given morning she made potato and egg for one child, chorizo for another, whipped up pancakes for another, or whatever we requested. Maria is preceded in death by her husband Pedro Villescas, mother Rosario Rosas, brothers Aristeo Cantu(Eduvijes) and Jose Javier Cantu. Maria is survived by her seven children, Ramiro (Lil), Rebecca (Miguel) Regalado, Raquel (Andy) Arcaute, Ruben (Lydia), Juan Luis (Shirley), Minerva and Roberto Alonzo Villescas; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grand children; her sister-in-laws Ofilia Cantu, Rafaela Villescas, Manuela Villescas, and Isabel Villescas; and numerous nephews and nieces, and numerous cousins. We would like to thank all our family and friends who have sent their prayers, calls, and visits during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Hiram Garcia and his staff for the care of our mother. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, Thursday, February 3rd, at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery. To protect everyone, we ask those joining us for the services to please wear a mask. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
