MARIA INEZ MARTINEZ MCALLEN - On January 17, 2021 Maria I. Gutierrez passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home. She was born on September 15, 1922 in Doctor Arroyo, N.L. Mexico to Jose Chavez and Fermina de la Rosa. Maria lived in McAllen TX. most of her adult life where she met the love of her life Rosario Gutierrez. They married in 1961 and shared a wonderful life together for 49 years. The loving couple enjoyed family outings, going dancing and working on their home’s landscaping. She is preceded in death by her husband Rosario Gutierrez; her parents; two brothers, Manuel and Pablo Segovia de la Rosa; two sisters, Gregoria and Paula Segovia de la Rosa. Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by her son, Jaime (Mary) Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Christopher J. Gutierrez of Austin Texas; her granddaughter, Michelle M. Gutierrez; numerous nieces and nephews. Later in life Maria would spend Christmas and New Year’s with her son’s family where she would bake cookies, play board games and go in search of plants in area nurseries but she would always want to come home to the house her husband built for them. It was her wish to be home when her time came, ultimately her wish was fulfilled. For the safety of all, strict COVID procedures and restrictions will be followed during the Funeral Service to be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 900 S. 23rd Street, McAllen, TX. on Thursday Jan. 28, 2021 at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens, 3605 N. Taylor Road, McAllen, TX. at 3:00PM. Because of the ongoing public health crisis, no family reception/gathering will be held at the conclusion of the services. The Gutierrez family will plan an appropriate family gathering to honor the memory of Maria Gutierrez at a future date to be determined when everyone’s safety is no longer an issue due to COVID 19. Thank you for your understanding. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
