Gregoria R. Gomez

PHARR - Gregoria R. Gomez, 90, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at McAllen Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents; Manuel Rivera and Anastacia Reyes, her husband of 25 years, Epifanio Gomez Sr., 4 brothers; Juan Rivera, Fortunato Rivera, Manuel Rivera and Valentin Rivera, 2 sisters; Vicenta Ramos and Juanita Salinas. Left to cherish her memory are 1 brother, Francisco Rivera, 4 sisters; Nancy Rivera, Guillermina Garcia, Carmen Medrano and Anita Jasso, 2 sons; Eugenio Avalos and Epifanio (Irma) Gomez Jr., 2 daughters; Yolanda (Jorge) Guerra and Anastacia G. (Alfredo) Ozuna. Goyita also leaves behind, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Goyita as she was lovingly known was the matriarch of her family. She led by example and gave timely advice, but was also a stern disciplinarian. Goyita was a playful soul who surprised everyone with her pranks. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious humor and loving spirit. Goyita enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and babysitting for family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. rosary, at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd., in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Burial will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons; EJ and Michael Gomez, Freddy, Lee and Roy Ozuna, and great grandsons; Eugene and Enrique Avalos and Christian Gregory Lazaga. Our family would like to thank D' Oro Home Health Services, McAllen Medical Center physicians and staff, and her nurturing care providers for treating our beloved mother with dignity. Special thanks to Mr. Joe Rodriguez and family for their continued support. Funeral Services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
