Peggy Lynn Stephens
Edinburg - Peggy Stephens passed away June 13, 2015, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 8, 1928, to Beulah and Ralph Morrow in Brady, Texas. She moved with her parents to Edinburg at an early age. Peggy attended Edinburg schools and graduated from Edinburg High School. She was in the Bobcat Sergeantettes and was a twirler and captain of the marching group.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Stephens; son-in-law, Sherman Vavra; brother-in-law, Douglas Carlson, and nephew, Alan Carlson.
She is survived by her children: Toni Vavra of Bandera; Kyle Stephens of Los Fresnos; and Sheri Rowland of S. Padre Island; a sister, Bennie Kay Carlson of Edinburg; Grandchildren: Jennifer (Kyle) Johnson, Keri (Stephen) Rodgers, J.J. (Lindsey) Vavra, Stephanie (Stacy) Eleuterius, Madeline Stephens, Clayton Stephens, Justin Rowland, Mikael (Nina) Rowland, and Brandon Rowland, 14 Great Grandchildren; niece, Lynda (Dennis) Holbrook and nephew, David Carlson.
Peggy was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Edinburg before moving to Brook Ridge Retirement in Pharr. She served in the Hidalgo County District Clerk's office before retiring. Peggy and Jack loved to travel, besides Edinburg, they lived in Tripoli, Dubai and Singapore. She loved to play bridge and never turned down a game when she was able.
A Celebration of Peggy's life is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Road in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the charity of their choice.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
