ROBERT “BOB” LOPEZ, SR EDINBURG - Robert “Bob” Lopez, Sr., 58, of Edinburg, Texas entered eternal rest peacefully Friday night, December 4, 2020, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family.  The Lopez and Olivarez family are comforted with the knowledge that Bob is in his perfect heavenly body, his suffering is gone, and he is in the arms of his Savior, with his son by his side and his father on the other. Bob was born in Edinburg, Texas to Horacio and Irma Lopez. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1981 and was a lifelong resident of Edinburg. On November 23, 1985 Bob married the love of his life, Sylvia Garcia of Weslaco and together they raised two children, Tammy and Robert, Jr. For many years, he worked for the City of Edinburg and the County of Hidalgo. Bob was a sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. Bob is known for his kind heart and giving spirit. His family remembers him as compassionate and loyal. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. He adored his four grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Grampy”. They were his pride and joy and there was not anything he wouldn’t do for them. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched, but his legacy will live on through his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sylvia (Garcia) Lopez of Edinburg; daughter, Tammy (Carlos) Olivarez of Weslaco; grandchildren, Diego, Chloe, Carly, and Gabriel Olivarez all of Weslaco; mother, Irma Lopez of Edinburg, siblings, Lydia (Thom) Engel of Hale, Michigan, Horacio (Hilda) Lopez of Gregory Portland, Rosie (Rene) Gutierrez Martinez, Jose Luis (Noemi) Lopez, Belinda (Albert) Rios, Gloria (Miguel) Salinas and Irma Iris (Miguel) Lopez all of Edinburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bobby” Lopez, Jr. (Edinburg) and father, Horacio Lopez, Sr. (Edinburg). Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 215 North 16th, in Edinburg.  Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens, 6200 North Val Verde Road, in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
