McAllen- Ramona Olivares Guerra was born in Edinburg, TX on November 5, 1919. In her early years, she was a resident of Hidalgo, TX before moving with her family to McAllen in 1959, where she lived until her death on October 22, 2014.
Mrs. Guerra was a hardworking individual, working day and night as a migrant worker. She didn't let the blinding sweat stop her from fulfilling her obligations. She instilled in her children the value of being a hard worker by taking them to work in Illinois, Idaho, Michigan and Texas.
Ramona wanted her children to always do their best and pushed them to continue their education. She was not one to let her children sit back, rather she taught by example. She was employed by Dr. Ramiro Casso as a Nurse's Assistant for over 30 years. She helped bring babies into the world, injected shots to help children feel better and supported family members in their time of need. She will fondly be remembered by so many people for her love and care towards others.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Guerra, Sr., two sisters, Maria del Bosque and Guadalupe Gomez; two sons-in-law, Gonzalo G. Garza and Donald Brainerd. Ramona was the last of the 2nd generation of the Guerra Family and is survived by seven children: Raquel (James) Wile, Pedro (Suzanne) Guerra, Francisca Brainerd, George Guerra, Juan (Yolanda) Guerra, Connie Guerra and Homero (Yolanda) Guerra; 14 grandchildren, Noel, Cynthia, John David, Michael, Daniel, Noe, Sandra, Jon, Jaclyn, Jo Dina, Joseph, Raquel, Noemi, Sara; 21 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Anyone who knew her can admit that it was an honor and privilege to have known her. She was firm but loving, structured but free-spirited, a strong woman and great storyteller who never gave up. Abuelita Monchi, Grandma Monchi, Monchi, Mama, Reyna, Ramoncita, and our dear friend, God be with you, until we meet again.
