Rosario Chua

d. March 28, 2020

EDINBURG - Rosario de Claro “Rosie” Chua, Ph. D., 79, went to be with our Lord, Saturday, March 28, 2020, in Edinburg surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Batangas City, Philippines. She had lived in the Rio Grande Valley for more than 20 years. Rosario was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Jr.; her parents, Felicisimo de Claro and Natividad Casilao. Rosie has valued education and has been an educator and mentor for almost 55 years. From a Chemical Engineer, to a professor, a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education, and to becoming an Executive Vice President of a prestigious university in the Philippines, she has helped provide opportunities for students to chase and realize their dreams. After moving to the USA, she continued her teaching career at local public schools in the Rio Grande Valley, at UTRGV (former UTPA), Oratory Academy of St. Philip Neri, and at South Texas College where she spent her last years teaching before retiring in 2014. She loved to listen to music, browse Facebook, and watch YouTube from her phone. She enjoyed company with her family, relatives, and friends. She was loved by her church peers, co-workers, co-teachers, and mentees from all over. She was a devoted and loving wife, supportive and caring mother, and generous friend. She will be greatly missed. Dr. Chua is survived by her sons, Domingo III “Dodjie” and Gerry; daughter, Geneve “Princess”; in-laws, Eva, Tess and Poppen; grandchildren, Don, Margery, Jerry; siblings, Lety, Toto and Nenet, Meo and Cecile, Dely and Dante, nieces and nephews, cousins, godchildren, and extended De Claro and Casilao families. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
