R.M. "CHIP" SOKOL R. M. "Chip" Sokol, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 in McAllen, TX. He was born June 24, 1936, in Chicago to George and Stephanie Tobiaz Sokol. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandchild, Paul Michael Latham. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rochelle Koeberlein Sokol; four children, Scott (Robin) Sokol, of Palm Bay, FL, Dawn Sokol, MD, of Winter Park, FL, Marc Sokol, of Ballwin, MO, and Christine (Roy) Latham, of Keller, TX; two brothers, Eugene Sokol, of Elk Grove Village, IL, and George (Susan) Sokol, of Laguna Niguel, CA; nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Brett Sokol, Megan, Michael, and Erin McKinley, Sunny Sokol, and Allison, Thomas, and Jesse Latham. Chip earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. Notable highlights of his career include being on the 6-man team that developed the first digital computer supplied to NASA for Gemini astronaut training; he was also instrumental in the introduction of personal computers, and the successful development of a software company. Chip enjoyed outdoor activities, especially camping and fishing. In retirement he pursued travel, golf, cooking, and bird watching. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
