Verl Adrian Gillespie

MCALLEN - Verl “Sparky” Gillespie, 76,was born on May 26, 1948 and entered eternal rest on Friday April 11, 2025. Sparky was born in Graceville, Minnesota, and later made a loving home in Palmhurst, Texas.

After 12 wonderful years together, he leaves behind his devoted wife, Starr, who cherishes every moment they shared. Sparky was a man of strength, humor, deep love, and conviction. He became a “Born-Again” Christian and found peace in his relationship with Jesus. On April 11, 2025, Sparky went home to be with the Lord - and I know we will see each other again one day.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home at 301 East Yuma Avenue, McAllen, TX 04481, in honor of the exceptional care they gave to the greatest veteran we’ve ever known.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. with military honors on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
