SAMUEL DE LA GARZA
EDINBURG - Samuel De La Garza, 65, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in McAllen surrounded by his family. Born and reared in McAllen, he had lived in Edinburg for the past six years. Mr. De La Garza is preceded in death by his parents, Dámaso and Aurora De La Garza.
Mr. De La Garza is survived by his three siblings, Jane De La Garza, Danny (Maria Elena) De La Garza and Michael De La Garza; a nephew, Daniel De La Garza; his niece, Lisa Marie De La Garza; two great-nieces, Savannah De La Garza and Rory Thomas; a great-nephew, Nikolas Thomas; numerous cousins and friends.
He was a very proud 12th generation Texan who served his country in the Air Force in the early 1970's. He became owner and manager of Garza's Axle and Wheel Alignment Shop after the death of his father in 1981. He was a talented musician who played a variety of instruments. His favorite musical instrument was the piano. He enjoyed playing the piano for family and friends, as much as they enjoyed listening. He was also a Tae Kwon Do enthusiast who practiced the skill for a number of years. Illness slowed down his body, but his spirit was strong to the end. His younger brother, Michael, became his closest friend, confidant, and trusted caretaker. Sam greatly loved and respected his younger brother for all his efforts to ensure his well-being.
Sam lived his life in service to his family and community. He will be fondly remembered by all who loved him. The family greatly appreciates all the medical care and attention given to Sam by NP/PA April Lopez and her staff, RN Marcos Flores and staff at ASC Healthcare, Palm Valley Home Health, and the wonderful staff at McAllen Heart Hospital. Most special was the care and attention provided by Miriam De La Mora for the past 6 years.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. celebration of life service, Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg.
