Rodolfo Bartly, 85, went to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, in McAllen surrounded by his family. Rodolfo fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith (II Timothy 4:7). Mr. Bartly was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Jenny Bartly; his sister, Ruby Bartly.
Rodolfo Bartly was born on October 1, 1937, the first of four children born to the union of Jenny Bartly Campbell and Alfonso Notice. Rodolfo grew up in Limon, Costa Rica, where he completed his basic education. As the older brother, Rodolfo was very protective, and caring towards his siblings and his mother. Just before the age of 5, on July 3, 1942, Rodolfo and his siblings, along with other 22 Costarricans, loss their fathers while working on the San Pablo ship. While unloading cargo at Port Limon, Costa Rica; the German submarine fired two torpedoes which struck the San Pablo mid ship leaving them fatherless and his mother alone to care for her four small children. Growing up without his father, Rodolfo developed a special closeness with this mother and siblings. Although at that tender age he could not understand the loss, instinctively, he became the protector and remained the anchor of the family.
In 1970, Rodolfo migrated to the Brooklyn, New York, USA where he worked as a machinist until retirement. In his later years, Rodolfo found love when this beautiful lady came visiting his neighbor. They became inseparable friends and later, in 1993, Rodolfo married his friend, his love—Marta Grant, from Germania, Port Limon, Costa Rica. The protective and caring spirit he developed as a child, never left him, even when he was sick. It was a delight to see Rodolfo and Marta taking care of each other. But a greater love he found– when Marta introduced him to Jesus Christ. He accepted the Advent Message and was baptized in the Brooklyn Temple SDA Church on May 24, 1998.
Rodolfo’s parents and sister Ruby preceded him in death. After brief illness, Rodolfo Bartly responded to the call to rest from his toil and labor and is now awaiting the sound of the trumpet sound when the dead in Christ shall rise first. But, in the mean time, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 30 years, Marta G. Bartly, ten children and their respective spouses, Errol Bartly, Vesta Bartly, Walter Bartly, Marta Bartly, Ligia Holmes, Sylvia Gordon, Vilma Simpson, Jacqueline Simpson, Elvis Grant, and Randall Grant, 30 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his brother Orlando Bartly and his sister Orelia Bartly; a host of nieces and nephews, friends and his church family from the Edinburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. “Even so come Lord Jesus”, come and put and end to the pain and suffering on this earth. You promised: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” Rev. 21:4
