MCALLEN - Rocio "Rosie" Herrera, 42, entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in Edinburg.

Rosie was beautiful, funny, intelligent, compassionate, organized, thoughtful, loving, caring, and giving. She was a leader, never a follower, and she always found herself at the center of her endless circle of friends. I could not have asked for a better partner and mother to my children. She was the ultimate role model and personified what it meant to overcome every single life obstacle. Coming to the U.S. from Mexico, speaking no English at all and being raised early on by her mother, she went through ESL classes, was discovered by one of her teachers who immediately placed her in advanced classes, and from there the sky was the limit. She went on to get her Masters in Accounting, and immediately climbed the ladder at her accounting firms. She was SO smart. I told her early on that one of the reasons I fell in love with her was because I knew she didn’t need me one bit. She was fully and wholly capable of taking care of herself and everyone around her. She had the mind of a CEO, but instead dedicated her entire self to her children, her family, her friends and her community and used that beautiful brilliance in a way that seemed to make everyone around her better. In a way, I feel like she’s been preparing me for this from the day I met her.

Mrs. Herrera is survived by her husband, Dr. Henry R. Herrera Jr.; her three daughters, Bianca S. Herrera, Camila I. Herrera, and Olivia E. Herrera; her parents, Roman Cuevas Gil and Maria Graciela (Daniel Velazquez) Gonzalez Tejeda; her sister, Daniela Velazquez; her in-laws, Henry Robert and Gloria Herrera; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
