MCALLEN - Roberto Tomas Garcia, 71, entered eternal rest on Monday, February 10, 2025. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by his parents, Elena C. Garcia and Eliodoro O. Garcia; maternal grandparents, Francisca Flores Castaneda and Catarino Castaneda; paternal grandparents, Maria Ortega Garcia and Tomas Garcia.
Mr. Garcia in his youth, served as altar boy at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. Throughout his years in school he was active in academic clubs and athletic clubs. He graduated from High School and was able to attend Junior College through an athletic scholarship in baseball. He continued his education in the RGV by working part time at a H.E.B. grocery store. He worked at UTPA with the C.A.M.P. program. Mr. Garcia worked as a juvenile probation officer and later as a manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Austin, Tx. After furthering his education he earned employment with McAllen Independent School District as a High School Counselor. Roberto enjoyed his life as a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He is dearly loved and will be missed. He had an exemplary work ethic, had outstanding leadership skills and his caring nature along with his zest for life was always evident!

Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Gilda Marie Garcia; 2 children, Gina Marie (Jay) Gonzalez and Robert Jaime (Ashley) Garcia; 4 grandchildren, Jay E. Gonzalez, Ethan J. Gonzalez, Caleb E. Garcia and Bennett R. Garcia; 2 siblings, Ruben Garcia and Rosario Maria Garcia; 4 nieces, Raziela Garcia, Yizenia Garcia, Roxann Marie Aquero and Roscell Linda Peters; numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 6 p.m. eulogy and a 7 p.m. rosary, Monday, February 17, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
