Reynaldo Bumatay

EDINBURG - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reynaldo Bumatay, a beloved father and grandfather, who left us on Saturday January 18, 2025, at the age of 82. Daddy passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters and grandson. Born September 16, 1942 in the Philippines, he was the cherished youngest child of Pablo and Petra. Rey grew up in Cagayan Valley and was known for being the baby of the family.

Affectionately called Mr. Bumbum, Rey had a fulfilling career in education where he was famously feared by his beloved students and cherished by his peers. "Dot", as he was called by his grandchildren enjoyed seeing them all grow to be the best that they can be. He took pride in all of them and they never failed to provide him with joy and happiness.  

Reynaldo is survived by Angel (Veejee), Pim (Allen), and Maggie (Harkin); three grandchildren, Angelo, Molly, and Dev; two sisters, Neri and Seng. 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 3 p.m. Celebration of Life service on Friday January 24, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Rey will be dearly missed but we find comfort in the wonderful memories that he leaves behind. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
