MARY GONZALEZ EDINBURG - Mary Gonzalez, 56, entered eternal rest Sunday, July 25, 2021, in Edinburg. Ms. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her parents, Jose R. and Bertha L. Gonzalez; her brother, Jose R. Gonzalez Jr. Mary gave back to the community as an educator for over 25+ years. She was adored by the children she served. She retired from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District in June 2021. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary enjoyed finding any moment to spend with her family. She was a wonderful cook and delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones. Mary was devoted to God and beloved by many: her family, friends, and congregation. Her faith never faltered. She loved reciting scripture and sharing the word of God with others. Her presence lit up a room and brought a smile to everyone. She will be missed by all. Ms. Gonzalez is survived by her husband, David Macias; two children, Rudy Gonzalez, and Christina (Nicholas) Barela; her grandson, Owen Barela; nine siblings, Jose H. Gonzalez, Juan M. (Aurora) Gonzalez, Alfredo Gonzalez, Rosalinda (David) Carreon, Gloria N. Gonzalez, Miguel A. (Maria) Gonzalez, Mario (Clara) Gonzalez, Ruben (Laura) Gonzalez, and Irma (Margarita) Gonzalez; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. Celebration of Life service, Friday, July 30, 2021, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg.
