Maria Luisa Garza, age 92, was called upon to be with Our Lord on May 11, 2013. She died peacefully surrounded by family members at her bedside. María Luisa was born August 18, 1920 in Cadereyta Nuevo León, México. She migrated to the United States at an early age residing in McAllen, TX where she married Ventura Garza to begin a life together in 1938. However, she was widowed at the age of 50 becoming the matriarch of the Garza family. She held the family closely united and taught to love and respect one another according to Our Lord teaching. Although McAllen was her home, in 1982, she moved to Austin with her sons and be close to her only daughter. She thanked and prayed each day to bring joy and peace for a better world for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were her most worthy gift. Family will miss her love, strength and guidance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ventura Garza, father Juan Garza; mother Maria de Jesus Vela, brothers; Cayetano, Gilberto, Jesus, Santiago, Ramon, her only sister Guadalupe and granddaughters: Ilene Cedillo and Guadalupe Garza
Maria Luisa leave a legacy with a daughter, Sandy Cedillo (Rodolfo) of Kyle,TX, nine sons; Eduardo (Alicia) of Rockport, IL; Ireneo (Louisa) of Buda, TX, Ventura (Maria de Jesus) of McAllen; Leonardo (Maria Elena) of Santa Fe, TX, Raul (Imelda) of Santa Fe, TX, Analberto (Reyna) of Buda, TX, Juan (Frances) of Austin, TX , Daniel and Jesus of Austin, TX; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-three great children; also leaves behind many loving nephews, nieces, other close family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Century Hospice especially Maribel and Michelle; also, Maria Godínez, of Girling Health Care, who cared for her the last years of her life.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by rosary on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at Mission Serenity Chapel, 6204 South First Street, Austin, TX 78745.
Visitation and Rosary is also scheduled at Legacy Chapel, Edinburg, TX on May 15, 2013 and with final resting place at La Piedad Cemetery in McAllen, Texas on Thursday May 16, 2013.
