Maria De Jesus Salazar

MCALLEN - Maria de Jesus Salazar, 90, went to be with our Lord, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in McAllen, Texas. Mrs. Salazar was preceded in death by her late husband, Jose R. Salazar; her son, Jose R. Salazar Jr.; her daughter, Blanca E. Salazar; two grandchildren, Austin Rhea and Isabella Rhea; her parents, Julio Cuellar Aviles and San Juana De Leon Gomez; her brother, Lorenzo Cuellar De Leon; her sisters, Maria del Carmen, Maria del Rosario, Gloria, Piedad, Felicitas, Leopoldina y Angelica Cuellar De Leon.

Mrs. Salazar is survived by five of her children, Victor M. Salazar, Martha E. (Antonio) Muniz, Maria I. (Brett) Rhea, Jorge L. (Claudia) Salazar, and Anna 'Karina' (Omar) Leal; nine grandchildren, Marco, Alaylah, Marcello, Jorge Jr., Orlando, Myranda, Leilanie, Ciara and Natasha; three sisters, Herminia, Elva, Dora Silvia Cuellar De Leon, one brother, Julio Cesar Cuellar De Leon; numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria was a proud native of Monterrey, Nuevo León, MX. She lived there until her young 20's. Later, she moved with a sister to Reynosa, Tamaulipas, MX where she met the love of her life, Jose R. Salazar from San Luis, Potosi, MX. Married in April 19, 1958 at 24 years of age, and they had seven children. This year of 2023, it was 65 years together in holy matrimony for Maria and Jose. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a great caretaker of their home throughout her entire life. She lived a Godly life and passed her teachings to her children to continue growing in their faith.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg, TX. Funeral mass will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2023, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen, TX. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, TX.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg, TX.
