Margarita Piña Castañeda

EDINBURG - Margarita Piña Castañeda, 91, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Edinburg surrounded by her family. Mrs. Castaneda was preceded in death by her husband, Octavio Castañeda; her son, Juan Octavio Castañeda; her parents, Simon and Elvira Piña; four siblings, Juana Piña Fabila, Eufemia Piña Valdez, Francisca Piña, and Pedro Piña.

Margarita had a deep love for language, poetry, and the written word, often pouring her soul into songs and poems that reflected her faith and appreciation for God’s mercy. She found joy in memorizing Psalms and sketching the beauty of nature, capturing trees, flowers, ducks, and crosses with serene grace. Her creativity extended to crafting delicate beaded baskets, a reflection of her patience and artistry. Above all, she embraced a life of service, always ready to lend a helping hand, celebrate family milestones, and support the ministry of God with unwavering devotion.

Mrs. Castañeda is survived by her three children, Enedina (Amado Sr.) Escobar, Rosa Maria (Alfonso) Cardenas, and Daniel (Nancy) Castañeda; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five siblings, Maria Del Refugio Piña Hernandez, Maria Piña De Los Santos, Benjamin Piña, Andrea Piña Alvarez, and Gregoria Piña Temores; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Chapel service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg, Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be Francisco Fabila, Jr., Ismael De Leon, Octaviano Hernandez, Elias De Los Santos, Jose De Los Santos, Benjamin Piña, Alvaro Ojeda, and Adrian Escobar.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
