MANUEL S. MIRANDA ORTEGA

EDINBURG - Manuel S. Miranda Ortega, 91, went to be with our Lord, Monday August 27, 2018 in Edinburg surrounded by his family. Mr. Miranda is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Miranda and Mercedes Ortega.

Manuel was born in Cadiz, Spain and came to the United States in 1960, settling first in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He had lived in Edinburg since 1974. An avid reader, teacher and student of classical literature, Manuel contributed to the education of dozens, if not hundreds of his students, deeply touching the lives of all who met him. Manuel will be dearly missed and loved by everyone who knew him. 

Mr. Miranda is survived by his wife, Margarita Ruiz Cancho; five children, Margaret Miranda, Dr. Abraham (Maeve) Miranda, Roger (Bonnie) Miranda, Yasmina (William) Nye, and Tatiana (Joseph) Fralin; six grandchildren, Hadley, Isabella, Jacob, Katarina, Maximilian, and Sarah; two sisters, Mercedes Medina, and Milagrosa Ortiz; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Wednesday August 29, 2018 at Legacy Chapels, 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday August 30, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
