Manuel Ruben Cantu, 57, of McAllen, Texas was called home on April 30, 2023. Manuel Ruben was born on February 4, 1966 to Presentacion (Pres) and Armandina (La Bebe) Cantu in Mission, Texas. He was raised in Corsicana, Texas but moved to San Juan in his teen years and graduated from PSJA High School in 1984.
If you knew Manuel Ruben, you knew him as Manuel, Ruben, Meme, Memito, Mano,Manito, Primo, Primito, Tio, but most importantly, he was DAD-that was his favorite title! Dad was the most creative and artistic person anyone could know. He was loving, passionate, kind, generous to all and loved everyone he knew. He was always concerned for others before himself and took care of everyone in any way he could.
Dad was a successful entrepreneur, owning many self-started businesses for over 30 years and ultimately creating his brand, MRC Designs. he could literally take a twig and design the most beautiful piece of art imaginable! He decorated many homes, local businesses, and various event centers for private functions, but always made time for his family and friends-regardless of time of day, night or pending holiday! Dad was a remarkable person who will truly be missed by so many.
Manuel Ruben is preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law Yoli Gamez. He will lovingly remembered by his daughter, Savanah Cantu Ponce(Saul) and their children; his son Preston Cantu (Samantha); his former wife/friend and mother of his children, Janice Linn Cantu; three grandchildren, Bryan, Saul, and Jose Ponce. Also by his partner of 22 years, Noah Flores, of McAllen.
He will also be dearly missed by his brother, Miguel Gamez and his family of Corsicana, sisters Diane Gamez Ball (Bryan)and their family of Corsicana; Sheila Cantu Almanza (Hector) and their family of Pharr; and Teri Cantu Puente(David) and their family of Mission. He had many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he all cherished. We will all miss him dearly but will never forget the beautiful memories and laughs we shared with him.
