Lucila G. Escobar

MCALLEN - Lucila (Lucy) Garza-Escobar, 79, of McAllen, TX, entered eternal rest to be with our Lord, on March 8, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her husband and children. Born on July 11, 1945, in Alamo, TX, Lucila was the devoted wife of Romeo Alvaro Escobar for 57 years and the loving mother of Mark (Gloria) Escobar and Vanessa (Christopher) Curl. Mrs. Escobar is preceded in death by her parents, Seferino Garza and Manuela Balli-Garza; four siblings, Jesus “Chuy” Rodriguez (San Antonio), Daniel Garza (San Antonio), Roy Garza (San Juan), and Reynaldo Garza (Mission).

Lucy attended Pan-American University; however, discontinued her studies to support her husband as he pursued his education and career, setting aside her aspirations. She dedicated her career to Texas Employment Commission, serving as supervisor of the Unemployment Division, beginning her work in 1967 at the age of 22yrs and retiring in 1997 serving 30 years as she remained loyal to one company her entire employment history. She also took great pride to be a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, specifically in the National Court of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity located in San Antonio, Texas.

Lucy exhibited an unwavering loyalty and commitment to both her work and family. She devoted herself tirelessly to providing for her loved ones, consistently placing their needs and aspirations above her own. Her dedication not only supported her family but also served as a source of inspiration for them, motivating her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to strive to be their best. She actively encouraged them to complete their education, taught them the values of hard work, resilience, and ambition emphasizing the importance of pursuing a rewarding career that they would love which would ultimately lead them to happiness and success.

Her hospitality was exceptional, she took great pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere for her family and friends, ensuring they felt cherished and valued. One of her greatest accomplishments was her relationship with her grandchildren, whom she cherished and adored deeply. She always embraced the opportunity to care for them and was also known for preparing exceptional breakfast meals for them which they looked forward to. Her love for her grandchildren was profound.

Lucy was dedicated to her family, church, and friends, and was known for brightening the lives of those around her with thoughtful gestures. She often expressed her kindness through small gifts, whether visiting someone or leaving surprises at their doorsteps. Lucy loved to travel the world with her husband, exploring places like Switzerland, Russia, various European destinations, and her favorite, Jerusalem, where her husband and her renewed their vows in 2006 in Cana of Galilee. During her travels, she focused on finding meaningful gifts for others rather than herself, reflecting her generous spirit. Her family remembers her passion for shopping, and she enjoyed purchasing items for everyone she knew, always eager to share joy through her acts of kindness.

Mrs. Escobar is survived by her husband, Romeo Alvaro Escobar; her son, Mark (Gloria) Escobar (San Antonio), along with their children, Anyssa Guerra, Juan Roberto Guerra, and Jacob Escobar; her daughter, Vanessa (Christopher) Curl (McAllen), and their children, Hunter Wayne Curl, Autumn Demri Curl, Saige Dakota Curl and their family members, Mago Hernandez & Vianey Hernandez; her caregiver Angelina Adrade; her brothers: Oscar (Margarita) Garza and Raul (Sylvia) Garza; numerous nieces and nephews.
