Roel Trigo, 80, joined His Savior on September 25, 2015. He was born in Rio Grande City to Procacio Trigo and Anita Leal Trigo.
He graduated from McAllen High School in 1953 and from Trinity University in 1957, where he played on the tennis teams. After graduating, he joined the US Army and served as secretary to the Provost Marshall at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and in Orleans, France.
Upon his return, he began his teaching career with the PSJA School District at Napper Elementary School, Buchner, Jefferson Junior High, PSJA High School and PSJA North, where he ended his 50 years in education. He treasured every moment in the classroom. Mr. Trigo was a member of the Palm City Kiwanis Club and was elected president in 1965-1966. He was an avid football fan, supporting the PSJA Bears and the PSJA Raiders. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys on TV.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Procacio and Anita Trigo. Mr. Trigo is survived by his wife of 51 years, Estela Trigo; his son, Derek Trigo; his daughter, Deena (Ismael) Herrera; and his grandchildren, Evette, Ashlyn, Elijah and Noah.
The family will receive friends and family from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015, at Legacy Chapels in McAllen. Military honors will be conducted at 5 p.m. by Sergeant Benito Alaniz VFW Post 7473 of Elsa. Deacon Guillermo Castilleja will officiate the service at 6 p.m. A rosary will be recited by the ladies of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 7pm.
