HORACIO "LACHO" LOPEZ EDINBURG - Horacio "Lacho" Lopez, Sr., 90, entered into eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Horacio was born on October 21, 1925, to Juan Lopez and Rosa Garcia Lopez in Edinburg, Texas. Horacio entered the United States Navy in 1944. He fought with the 3rd fleet on the USS Iowa. A lifelong native resident of Edinburg, Horacio retired from Edinburg Child Care after 20 years of service. He was a faithful citizen and known by all for his incredible sense of humor and zest for life. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he has touched, but his legacy will continue to thrive through the lives of his children. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Domingo and Pedro Lopez; four sisters, Santos Lopez, Cecilia Vecchio, Julia Garcia and Gerarda Navarro. Horacio is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria Irma Flores Lopez; eight children, Lydia (Thomas) Engel of Michigan, Rosa Maria Gutierrez, Horacio (Hilda) Lopez, Jr., Jose Luis (Noemi) Lopez, Robert (Sylvia) Lopez, Belinda (Albert) Rios, Gloria (Mike) Salinas and Irma Iris Lopez; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fidencia (+Angel) Salazar, Maria Luisa (+David) Mosqueda; a sister in law, Raquel Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, March 21, 2016, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Amara Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Horacio during his time there. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Eric Gutierrez, Horacio Lopez, III, Joe Lopez, Robert Lopez, Jr., Jeremy Michael Salinas and Tristan Andrew Mares. Honorary pallbearer is his great-grandson, Rolan Andres Cantu. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
