SAN JUAN - Helen Laurine Robbins, 93, left her earthly home and entered Heaven on Saturday, December 9, 2023. She was born on September 10, 1930 in McAllen, Texas. Mrs. Robbins is preceded in death by her father, Lawrence James Wilks; mother, Lela Mae Sternberg; stepfather, Harvey Sternberg; sister, Valda Mae Walker; brothers, Lawrence Robert Wilks and Harvey Paul Sternberg; son, Louis Robert Robbins; son-in-law, Kenneth Terveen; and daughter, Pamela Ann Funk.
Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the Lord with all her heart and she found joy in serving Him through her church and numerous ministries. She was very active in the San Juan Baptist Church, serving as secretary for many years. For as long as she was able, Helen's beautiful alto voice could be heard every Sunday in the church choir and at every Christmas cantata that the church would perform. In 1966, she was part of the initiating team that formed the First Baptist Church knitting ministry and she cherished the fellowship that it brought. She was an active member of the FBC WMU and FBC Benevolence Ministry, as well as the Auxiliary of the Gideons International.
Mrs. Robbins was a very talented painter and could hand draw almost anything. Friends and family cherish her paintings displayed in their homes. Helen is also a two-time breast cancer survivor.
Mrs. Robbins is survived by her husband of 74 years, Louis Robbins; 3 children, John Robbins, Vickey Terveen, and Floyd Robbins (Ginette); 11 grandchildren, Sam Robbins (Nicky), Matthew Robbins, Melissa Stakes, Stephanie Watson (Chad), Amy Cantu, Vanessa Lowry (Will), Christopher Robbins, Jason Robbins (Vivian), Justin Robbins (Sierra), Robert Robbins-Skalitsky (Chrystal), and Cassidy Robbins; 11 great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Levi Robbins, Wesley and Carson Stakes, Hunter and Colton Thornton, Taylor Cantu, Liam Lowry, Colton Robbins, Dale Robbins, and Haddie Robbins-Skalitsky; numerous family and freinds.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 19, 2023 at First Baptist Church in San Juan with a reception to follow in the church's Fellowship Hall. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
