Mission- Gerardo "Jerry" Gomez, 67, It is with heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Gerardo “Jerry” Gomez, who has gained his wings and is a handyman in heaven. He was a caring, loving, and selfless husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend, who left us on November 7, 2024, at the age of 67. While we will miss him beyond measure, we find comfort knowing he’s now reunited with his parents Ernesto & Teresa Gomez, brother George Gomez, and cousin Robert Rodriguez, possibly arguing over who will have the first beer and who had the better sense of humor at Easter Sunday gatherings.
Born in McAllen, Texas, on August 31, 1957, Dad Jerry was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and legendary storytelling abilities. He could turn any ordinary moment into a reason for laughter—whether it was telling inappropriate, but somehow charming jokes, recounting embarrassing childhood tales, or just offering unsolicited but well-meaningful advice, usually paired with a beer toast and a smile.A lifelong jack of all trades, Dad Jerry dedicated himself to work on heavy machinery, followed by working in the family business, along with other self-employed jobs.He was a man of simple pleasures; a perfectly cold beer, barbecuing at the pond, and, of course, endless hours spent outside working on the yard. But it was always his family that came first—whether it was supporting his children/grandchildren through every stage of their lives. Being the first person to show up for a family gathering; Dad, Jerry was a brutally outspoken man, he had the ability to make someone cringe with his opinions, and he gave no apologies for it. Yet, he was the first to offer help when needed, the last one to complain, and the absolute worst person when it came to keeping secrets. Dad Jerry's legacy is one of unwavering love, unfiltered humor, a heart of gold, and selflessness.
He leaves behind his wife Martha Aranda Gomez, daughters Patricia (Robert) Gomez, Veronica Navarro, and son Carlos Navarro Jr. His grandchildren Natalie Gomez Silva, Raphael Gerardo Gomez Silva, Cristian Gomez Silva, Agustin Salazar Jr, Kimberly Soto, Martha Montes, Nathaniel Gonzales, Adan Garcia III, and Elyssa Garcia. His great grandchildren Rozalyn Gomez Silva, Alexander Basurto, Anjalyna, Anthony, Ayden, Austin Soto, Noah, Maya, Mallory Montes, Abel, and Andres Garcia. His siblings Medardo Roel Gomez, Gilbert (Dolly) Gomez, Anabel (Ramon) Rios. Jerry’s love, laughter, and wisdom will forever echo in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass or a beer to him and tell a joke—preferably a funny naughty one, in his honor. Rest in peace, Daddy Jerry, you made the world brighter, funnier, and better, and We WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS.
