ELFIDA GARZA
EDINBURG - Elfida Garza, 82, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, in Edinburg. Ms. Garza was preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Rosa S. Garza; three siblings, Armando F. Garza, Arnaldo Garza, and Olda G. Peña; four brothers-in-law, Gilberto Garza, Ernesto J. Cantu, Ernesto Alvarado, and Jaime H. Peña; five nephews, Gilbert Garza, Orlando Castillo, Jaime Gomez, Saul Garza and Col. Ricardo Martinez; her nieces Dina Castillo and Annie Garza.
She was born and raised in La Reforma, Texas and graduated from San Isidro High School where she was very active in various sporting activities. She attended Pan American University and began her professional career as a teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Edinburg. She then became a secretary at San Isidro ISD and retired from Edinburg CISD after working there for over 40 years.
Although she never married and did not have children, she was like a mother to her 31 nieces and nephews who adored her endlessly. She would attend as many football games, basketball games and livestock shows for not just her nieces and nephews but for their children as well. She had a love for gambling, loteria, and was a true die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, who attended various games when she could. She will be remembered as the aunt who had a Christmas gift for everyone; her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ms. Garza is survived by her four sisters, Emma G. Garza, Delia G. Cantu, Hilda G. Alvarado, Rosa Velia G. (Ruben) Castillo; two sisters-in-law, Blanca C. Garza, and Ofelia G. Garza; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at San Isidro Catholic Church, 5160 FM 1017 in San Isidro Texas. Interment will follow at La Soledad Family Cemetery in San Isidro.
