EARL ANTHONY ARNESON
MCALLEN - Earl Anthony Arneson, 95, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in McAllen. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Regina Mary Arneson; step-son, James Rasmussen, and step-daughter, Kathy Rasmussen-Stien; his brother, Carl Arneson Jr., and Roy Arneson; his step-grandson, Danny Stein; his uncle, Morten Arneson.
Mr. Arneson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a proud veteran having served in the US Army Engineer Corps. A dedicated and effective public servant with a career spanning three decades, Earl began his work in his early 20’s as a Teamster’s Public Employees Local #664 Business Representative. His tenacity and vigor was quickly recognized and he acted under direct supervision of Jimmy Hoffa, the union’s president, at a pivotal time in the Teamster’s storied history. Earl became an integral part of his community, being elected to several posts including Minneapolis Park Board President, Labor Relations and Personnel Director, Board of Estimate and Taxation President, Municipal Employees Retirement Fund Vice-President, Chairman of Investment Committee, Chairman of Personnel Committee and City Comptroller and City Treasurer for numerous terms. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 101 in Pharr.
Mr. Arneson is survived by his wife, Svitlana Arneson; two children, Daniel V. Arneson and Susan Hedemark; three grandchildren, Jed, Amy, Gina; four step-grandchildren, Michelle, Mike, Kylie, and Nathan; two brothers, Marvin (Carol) Arneson, and Morten (Sharon) Arneson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. Chapel service Friday, February 3, 2023, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Recepction will follow at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse 3200 West Expressway 83 in McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
