DORA ELIA TREVINO
EDINBURG - She was our mother, our protector, and our family's most-cherished blessing. But Dora Elia Trevino was also one of God's most-humble and faithful servants, and on March 9, 2021 the Lord mercifully called her home to Heaven following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 84 years old. Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, and one son, Robert (Letty) Trevino. Dora was the eldest of eight siblings and was preceded in death by one brother, Lauro Lopez, and two of her sisters – Noemi Lopez, and Guadalupe Medina.
Dora was born on March 2, 1937 in Puerto Rico, Texas to Domingo and Maria Lilia Lopez. She graduated from Villa Maria High School in Brownsville in 1955, and shortly thereafter, she married Oscar Trevino, Sr. Together, Oscar and Dora built a small chain of family-owned grocery stores, and a loving home for eight children. Dora had a passion for reading novels, watching her “novelas” on TV, collecting nativity scenes, dragonflies, and most of all, cooking and caring for her family and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Edinburg, serving as a member of the parish altar society, a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and as a volunteer at countless church functions. Dora also worked 14 years with the ECISD at Canterbury Elementary School and was passionate about working with migrant families and the community at large.
Dora is survived by seven children: Oscar (Carla) Trevino, Jr. of Mission, Benjamin Trevino of Edinburg, Henry (Katie) Trevino of Greenville, North Carolina, Terry Trevino of Alexandria, Virginia, Clarissa Trevino of Edinburg, Jaime (Anysia) Trevino of McAllen, and JJ Trevino of Edinburg; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Tagle; three brothers, Domingo Lopez, Juan Lopez, and Leonel Lopez.
