Palmview, TX and Hebron, Maine - David Q Whittier, at the age of 80, passed away at Retama Manor, Edinburg, on March 14. He was born to Quentin Whittier and Jeannette Wilson Whittier of Auburn, Maine. David graduated from Edward Little High School, University of Maine, and University of Maine Law School. He then opened his own law practice in S. Paris, Maine, and gave legal services to the Oxford Hills for 40 years.
David was involved in many service organizations, serving a leading role in each; National Ski Patrol, Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, Oxford Hills Rotary Club, Hebron Buckfield Rescue, Hebron Town Council, Hebron Fire Department, Signal Point Marina Association, the Good Sam Club and the Maine State Bar Association. His greatest honor was to serve as President of the Maine State Bar Association. David had a big heart, always helping others. David enjoyed boating on the coast of Maine. He and his wife took his boat, the Ms Demeanor, down the coast to Georgia. After retiring, David and his wife lived full-time in their camper, traveling from Maine to Georgia to Texas and back, following the sun. Bentsen Grove Resort, their winter home, became a permanent home three years ago.
David is survived by his wife, Kathy; a son, Brett Whittier of Tampa, Florida; his brother, Ted Whittier, of Placida, Florida; a step-son, Aaron Mathews of Chandler, AZ; a step-daughter, Beth Munsen of Pownal, Maine; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at First Congregational Church 17 East Main Street S. Paris, Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Doctors Without Borders.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
