Daisy Mary Alaniz

MCALLEN - Daisy Mary Alaniz, 54, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. Daisy was born in McAllen, Texas on August 24, 1970 to Roberto and Margarita Gonzalez. A 1988 graduate of McAllen Memorial High School, Daisy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in 1992 and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was a life-long educator, having worked at Hidalgo, Valley View and McAllen ISD as an English and Dyslexia teacher.

Daisy enjoyed spending time at the beach, watching the sunrise and set. She loved being active and participated in many 5K runs throughout her life. Music was her passion and enjoyed listening to 70’s, 80’s and Christian songs. An avid Sci-Fi fan, she spent hours watching Star Trek reruns, old and new. 

Daisy was an extraordinary woman. She had an infectious smile that would melt anyone in her presence. Though her life was short, she lived it to the fullest. Daisy confronted every obstacle with incredible courage, optimism, and resilience. She trusted our loving God unconditionally. Her faith carried her through every adversity and gave her comfort to endure the unknown. Despite her diagnosis and years of treatment, Daisy never complained and accepted God’s will. Daisy will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, friendly personality and giving heart. She loved people and never met a stranger.

Daisy is survived by her loving husband, Gilbert D. Alaniz, their children, Natalia M. Lopez (Mychal Gadison), Javier S. Lopez, Michael Alaniz and her granddaughter, Xena D. Gadison. Parents, Roberto and Margarita Gonzalez and sister, Debbie Gonzalez Fernandez (Santiago) and their children, Alexa and Andre Fernandez. Daisy was blessed with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and an extended family who loved and supported her throughout her life.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Chapel service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg. Interment will be at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
