EDINBURG - Arturo "Tater" Longoria, 85, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. Born at home in McCook on February 20, 1940, he served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s, stationed in Germany. Mr. Longoria was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Longoria; his parents, Marcelino and Guadalupe Longoria; his siblings, Alfonso Longoria, Domingo Longoria, and Margarita Trevino.
A devoted husband to his wife, Jessie, for over 50 years and a loving father to his daughter, Lisa, Arturo was also a wonderful son and brother, loyal and supportive to his family, and a true friend to all who knew him. As the oldest, he was a role model and father figure to many, leading with wisdom, strength, and a generous heart. He was a man of deep respect, honor, and integrity, living by old-fashioned values—hard work, humility, and kindness—always putting others before himself. He had a great sense of humor, loved lending a helping hand, and cherished his family. He took pride in his yard, loved birdwatching, and spending time in the kitchen mastering his pan de campo.
Arturo dedicated his career to Rehabilitation counseling, serving clients across the Rio Grande Valley with compassion and a helping hand. His spirit lives on in the rustling of the leaves, the scent of fresh-cut grass, the songs of the birds, and the simple joys he cherished.
Mr. Longoria is survived by his daughter, Lisa Longoria; grandson, Jack Longoria; three sisters, Gloria Gonzalez, Irma Guzman, and Clarinda Longoria; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to DHR Health Hospice and to the staff and directors at The Bridges at Edinburg Assisted Living Facility for their years of care and kindness.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2024, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Michael Espinoza, Antonio Espinoza, Eric Espinoza, Noah Olivarez, Josh Olivarez, and Ruben Garza.
Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
