MCALLEN - Arturo Cerros, 91, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Mr. Cerros was born to Alfredo and Maria del Refujio Cerros on April 12, 1932 in El Paso Texas. In his early years he traveled throughout the United States. He worked at Sioux Army Depot in the early 50's as a munitions quality control specialist. Mr. Cerros, later found employment as a Craneman at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana in 1954. In 1957 he returned to El Paso and married the woman of his dreams, Luz Maria Cerros. Thereafter, he returned with his bride to Gary, Indiana where they settled down and raised four children.
After retiring from Inland Steel in 1990, Arturo and Luz Maria returned to El Paso where they spent their retirement years. Mr. Cerros and his wife enjoyed an active retirement life, traveling throughout the United States and to various countries. His hobbies included boxing, fishing, playing pool and slot machines. He enjoyed meeting new people, spending time with family and friends. He lead a very active life and always utilized his time wisely, living life to the fullest. His final 2 years in life were spent in McAllen, Texas, under the loving care of his his wife and daughter, Ruthy.
Mr. Cerros passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter at his bedside.
Although Mr Cerros is no longer with us, his family rejoices knowing that he lived a long and happy life but will miss him dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Gardens at Brookridge, who cared for Mr Cerros and treated him like family. We would also like to thank Juan, his hospice nurse, as well as other nurses, CNA's and staff at A Healing Touch that cared for him during his final days.
Mr. Cerros is preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Maria del Refujio Cerros; his son, Roberto "Bobby" Cerros; sisters, Dolores Cerros, Emma Melendez, Maria Elena Jimenez and Rosa Garcia.
Mr. Cerros is survived by his wife, Luz Maria Cerros; 3 children, Pete Cerros, Alfred Cerros and Ruthy (Eduardo) Flores; 9 granchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Juana Gaytan, Maria (Antonio) Banuelos and Gloria Herrera; numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg.
