Araceli Garza Cantu

McAllen - Araceli Garza Cantu, 66, entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Mrs. Cantu is preceded in death by her parents, Leonel and Esther Garza; brother, Leonel Garza Jr.; nephew/godson, Valentin Gerardo Garza.

Araceli was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and Dallas Cowboys Fan.

She served her community as a registered nurse at McAllen General Hospital and McAllen Medical Center for 44 years. She also worked at Mission Hospital as a private nurse.

She was always the life of the party. So joyous and exuberant with her crooked smile and laugh that lit up a room. Every room she entered, people were drawn to her.

Araceli loved wearing bright colors and lipstick, music, dancing and throwing gritos. She dedicated her life to her family, friends and her beautiful garden

Mrs. Cantu is survived by her husband, Oscar Cantu; 3 daughters, Cynthia Cantu Del Bosque, Crissy Cantu and Cassandra Cantu; her son, Oscar Hilario Cantu; 4 siblings, Jose Valentin Garza, Elva Garza, Elvia Saenz, and Arminda G. Escobedo; 7 grand-children, Antonio Del Bosque, Rolando Del Bosque, Aria Lynn Gomez, Zyana Alexis Cantu, Oscar Hilario Cantu Jr., Ocean Athena Dismukes, and Yarely Natalia Cantu; numerous family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
