Alfredo “Fred” Garcia Jr.

MCALLEN - Alfredo “Fred” Garcia Jr., 59, was born in Chicago, IL on March 2, 1964.  Fred, a longtime resident of McAllen, TX passed away peacefully on December 25, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loved ones. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Alfredo D. Garcia and Mary Ann Bernal Garcia; his sister, Jennifer Garcia; his brother - in - law, Patrick A. Esparza; Nephew, Patrick A. Esparza II; grandmother, Refugia Bernal; and uncle, Gregorio Bernal Jr.

Fred was a loving husband and father who dedicated his life to his family. He enjoyed supporting his children’s interest in sports, sharing his life lessons and imparting wisdom to them. He especially adored his granddaughter, Anna Rae. Growing up as the eldest of five, he taught them a great work ethic. All who knew Fred were aware of the great challenge and enjoyment he found working on cars.  Fred was always willing to help any friends and family who were having issues with their vehicles.

He began his career working for the city of McAllen at the McAllen Police Department as a 911 Emergency Communications (Comms) Supervisor.  He then worked at the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Comms Specialist.  Finally, he worked with Border Patrol Enforcement as a Comms Specialist Supervisor.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary, Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
