Ada Margaret Davis

MCALLEN - Ada Margaret Davis went to her eternal rest, Wednesday, January 1st 2025 at the age of 98. She will be mourned and missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends she made during her long life. She enriched their lives with her warm, caring personality and her easy smile.

Ada was a very positive person full of passion, strength, and energy. She was also fearless and undaunted by the challenges of life. If there was a job to do, she was determined to get it done. She married at 18, but at the age of 33, with 2 children and a house to manage, she was encouraged to go to college. She enrolled at Pan American College where she graduated in 1966 with a degree in Education and a certificate in Special Education. After years of teaching, she later went on to earn her master’s degree in education from East Texas State University. She then worked at McAllen High School as a Special Education counselor, enriching the lives of students until her retirement in 1989.

Beginning in the 1970s, Ada began traveling during the summers with her husband. They traveled in their RV, and later their motorhome to parks all over Texas. They visited famous sites and monuments in the U.S and enjoyed the cruises they took to Alaska, along the East coast, and through the Panama Canal. Throughout her travels, her love of the beauty of nature inspired her to learn photography. She relished taking photos of flowers, butterflies, birds, and scenery. She even won several awards for her photography.

Ada was a very creative person who loved working with her hands and exploring numerous artistic pursuits. She painted with oils, made custom jewelry from stones she mounted on her jewelry table, created mobiles with anything she found beautiful or interesting, collected rocks from her travels, sewed clothes for herself and her children, crafted T-shirts, made decorative pillows, crocheted and embroidered. She even refinished furniture. She also loved gardening, nature and being outdoors. Her neighbors would often see her working in her yard or walking in the neighborhood for exercise even at the age of 98.

Most of all, she was a wonderful, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother who taught her family important lessons about joy, kindness, and hard work by her example. They are grateful for her long life and all the wonderful memories of time spent with her, which they will treasure in their hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Giuoco (Sam) and their children and grandchildren, as well as her son Mark Taylor (Judith).
