JOEL OCTAVIO FLORES
SAN JUAN - Joel Octavio Flores, 87, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2021. Octavio was born on October 18, 1934 in Oaxaca, Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, Angel Flores Maldonado and Juana Leonor Silva, son-in-law Walter Hoggard and former spouse Carmen Valdez Minor.
Mr. Octavio was a humble family man and a good father who loved to take his family to the beach. He worked in various retail stores in McAllen and surrounding communities. Octavio loved taking long walks on the streets of downtown McAllen. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as a tank gunner in Germany.
Octavio is survived by 2 sisters; Clemencia Flores Silva of Oaxaca, Mexico and Betty Lou Crowell of McAllen, 6 children, Angel (Norma) Flores of Austin, Carmen Hoggard of Bedford, Texas, Jerry (Mary) Flores of Harlingen, Nora (Tim) Smith of Edinburg, Marina Butts of Austin, and Chris (Jared) Leadbetter of McAllen, 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 nephews and 1 niece.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. rosary, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr Texas. Interment will follow at La Piedad in McAllen with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Juan Nursing Home www.sanjuannursinghome.org.
