JAN PERRY VINCENT YAP MCALLEN - A well-lived love-filled masterpiece. On February 15, 2020, Jan Perry Vincent Sayson Yap joined our Creator at the age of 23. He peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by his family in Houston, TX. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Urbano and Lydia Sayson, and Jesus and Pacita Yap. Jan Perry is survived by his parents, Noli and Tita Pilar; six siblings, Jan Paul (Dianne Aster), Jan Pritchard (Marnesyl Natty), Daisty Maye, Cesna Anne, Maristil Daianne, and Jan Paolo; and his niece Astrid Catalina. Perry was a dog lover and enjoyed the company of seven dogs – Maxx, Zeo, Scarlett, Leica, Zeiss, Kobe, and Cloud. Born prematurely with low muscle tone at 8:57 PM on July 9, 1996, and diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome, the doctors gave Perry only a few years to live. But Perry was our brave warrior that continued to defy all odds. With the support of his family, especially of his mom, Perry enjoyed a colorful and love-filled 23 years. Much like his favorite hobby, finishing intricate puzzles, Perry was a complicated masterpiece with numerous puzzle pieces that made him extraordinarily special. He was a loving son, a supportive brother, a doting uncle, a loyal friend, a competitive athlete, a master at his hobbies, an avid fan of sports teams, and a caring Dada to his beloved pets, among many others. The Special Olympics held an important puzzle piece in Perry’s life. He was at his happiest when he got to be a part of a team and win medals even if he placed last in his category. From track and field, bowling, to basketball events, Perry’s face would always beam with determination and pride when he competed. He enjoyed many hobbies including finishing 500-piece puzzles in just under 5 hours earning him the Master Puzzle Solver title when he was at the Healthbridge Children’s Hospital, going through booklets of sticker puzzles, playing Super Mario games on the DS, beating everyone in Uno and Bingo, and singing his heart out at the karaoke. Whatever he sets his mind into, Perry would always do it well and to the best of his abilities. Perry was also an avid Kobe Bryant and Lakers fan. He would do good deeds like making sure his blood glucose levels are low in exchange for Kobe or Lakers merchandise. Although Perry did not get to know that his idol Black Mamba passed away, we are sure that they are now enjoying each other’s company in heaven playing one-on-one basketball games with matching Kobe Bryant sneakers. The biggest pieces in Perry’s life are made up with love for his family and friends. His genuine joy for a family member’s accomplishments especially of his younger brother Paolo is immeasurable. Perry knew how to brighten up his loved one’s day, oftentimes with a call just to check if they had lunch, or a birthday greeting through a piano piece and a heartwarming videocall. Perry’s love knew no bounds. He loved without expecting anything in return, oftentimes getting his heart broken, but just continued to love all the same. The world needs more of his beautiful soul, although we are all underserving of his genuine warmth. Perry’s devotion and laughter will surely be missed but never forgotten. Much like his intricate puzzles, Perry is a unique masterpiece that has now been completed and called back to our Father’s loving arms. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a 5 p.m. memorial service on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Legacy Chapels 4610 South Jackson Road in Edinburg. A funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2201 Martin Avenue in McAllen, TX. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
