Mr. Arizmendi is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Raul and Minerva Arizmendi; his younger brother, Hector Daniel Arizmendi.
He is survived by his two children, Rebecca Isabel Arizmendi and Gerardo "Jerry" Raul Arizmendi Jr.; his four siblings, Carlos Arizmendi, Ricardo Arizmendi, Alfredo Arizmendi, and Laura Arizmendi; his three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerardo, a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, was born August 17, 1955 in Brownsville, Texas, and graduated from McAllen High School in 1975. On March 18, 1983, he married the mother of his children, Sylvia Marichalar, in Laredo, Texas, and on August 7, 1986 and August 7, 1989, he welcomed his daughter and son in McAllen, Texas, respectively. Gerardo was a skilled artist, musician, and vocalist -- talents he passed on to both of his kids. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, painting, and watching football -- specifically the Cowboys. He loved to cook and always enjoyed trying new recipes, especially during Thanksgiving his favorite holiday. Gerardo was needed a home. But most of all, he loved music, never missing an opportunity an opportunity to explain why the 70's was the best decade of music, period. He loved that his children were both blessed with his same gifts, and loved performing and singing at weddings with his daughter when she was just a little girl -- something she continues to do till this day. His last few years in life were spent battling a debilitating disease, but was fortunate enough to his brother, Carlos, by his side through most of the fight.
