Edinburg, Texas Arturo Z. Flores, 88, entered into Eternal Life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. He was born on March 8, 1929, in San Manuel, Texas to Eutimio and Rita Flores. Arturo was one of three children with his brother Ruben Dario and his sister Ernestina Oliveira. He was drafted into the army during the Korean Conflict in 1950 but returned to marry the love of his life, Elena Cristina Rodriguez, during a furlough in April 1951. After completing his service, he obtained his BBA degree at Pan American College and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1960. Arturo established his own practice, spanning 50 years; and during that time he was involved in many family, church, and civic activities. He was an active member of both Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Catholic Churches. Arturo and Cristina were Eucharistic ministers, sponsors for engaged couples, and ministers to youth in prison. He was a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, a Grand Commander of the Order of the Alhambra service organization, a president of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, and a president of the Kiwanis Club. Arturo and Cristina had six children: Arthur Flores (Dr. Dolley Flores), Anna Marie Flores (Mark Olsen), Lisa Jacobsen (Joel Jacobsen), Dorinda Flores (Martin McHugh), Dr. Eduardo Flores (Dr. Cristela Hernandez), Carla Flores (Matthew Marnon). He had 12 grandchildren: Ivan Flores, Matthew Olsen, Nicholas Olsen, Clayton Jacobsen, Celina Norton, Connor Jacobsen, Bennett Jacobsen, Alex McHugh, Damon McHugh, Carolina Flores, Merida Flores, and Ethan Rogers. He is also survived by his sister, Ernestina (Tina) Oliveira, and his nieces, Nilda Garcia, Velma Delgado, Sylvia Culvert, and Marlena Faulkner. Arturo was a very generous man. He gave to many people with a humble heart without expecting recognition, thanks or recompense. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with rosary at 7:00 pm at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd. in Edinburg. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, March 24th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Edinburg. Burial will follow at El Rucio Cemetery in San Manuel, Texas. Funeral services are under the direction of Legacy Chapels in Edinburg.
